Friends of Lakes
Regional Library
The FRIENDS OF LAKES REGIONAL LIBRARY is a
non-profit corporation established in 1990. Our
mission is to support and raise funds for the
benefit of Lakes Regional Library and/or Lee County
Library System.
We try to support a wide variety of requests, which
supplement the Lakes budget such as:
- Sponsoring and supporting the many adult,
teen and youth programs.
- Subscribing to the Book Page.
- Purchasing needed equipment and furnishings to
enhance the services provided by the Library.
- Maintenance of the plants in the children’s story
garden.
-
Supplementing the periodical budget.
-
We also support the Annual Reading Festival.
Major Events
Our main fund raising activity is the operation of
the Book Nook in Lakes Regional Library. In the Nook
we sell donated, gently read, books at a very
reasonable price. There is also a coffee machine in
the Nook, which is very popular with Library
patrons. The Nook is staffed entirely by volunteers
and we attempt to have it open during the hours the
Library is open. Major book sales are held
periodically depending on the availability of
donated books.
Membership dues and donations also provide support
for our many activities.
A newsletter Friends Focus is published monthly
(except July and August) providing information about
the Friends, our programs and various activities at
the library. A book review is also included. We mail
out 200 copies per month to Friends and supporters.
Copies are also available at the Library.
We maintain a display case in the lobby featuring
the work of local artisans and collectors.
Our Friends group meets the second Friday of the
month, except July and August in Meeting Room A in
Lakes Regional Library. A business meeting is held
at 11:30 a.m. followed by a box lunch (optional) at
noon and a guest speaker (usually a local author) at
1:00 p.m.
